Barbados is one of the most visited places in the Caribbean. With a population of approximately 300,000 this former British colony is now an independent state and member of the Commonwealth. Most people live in and around Bridgetown which is the capital and the largest city. This is a well developed country with high levels of education and a well respected international status.
People from Barbados are referred to as Barbadians or Bajan. They are friendly and hospitable and apart from the street hawkers peddling their cheap wares you will not feel awkward here. As a pedestrian wandering around Bridgetown if you ask a policeman the way it is more likely than give directions they will take you where you want to go.

The beauty of Barbados is stunning. From the Chattel houses ( tin roofed bungalows ) to the old colonial mansions, the rum factories to the national parks - there is something for all tastes and interests here in Barbados.
Whatever you do be sure to try the local bread fruit and flying fish. Take a trip on the Atlantis submarine and see the coral reef or visit Barbados Museum or Harrison's Cave. The best way to see Barbados is by car. Rihanna the world famous singer is from Barbados and in 2009 she was appointed at an official and honorary Ambassador of youth and culture.
